The older I get, the more I realize how much of a gift it is being able to eat at restaurants. It’s especially pleasant when the restaurant is nice. What makes me really happy is when I am able to eat pizza and ice cream consecutively. That’s what I consider “The Perfect Date”.
I was excited about trying Young Joni ever since it opened sometime last November but didn’t get the chance to go until now. The place is owned by Ann Kim of Pizzeria Lola and Hello Pizza which have become popular amongst Minneapolis locals. Young Joni features a few new shareable items such as the grilled chili blue prawns, Korean beef short ribs, Thai sausage, a range different vegetable options, etc.
Feelings of warmth flooding throughout me upon entering the space. It’s a more romantic setup than the other two restaurants owned by Kim but still maintains similar quirks (i.e. mismatched plates). The interior is well designed and facilitates a very comfortable yet more upscale environment.
Bauhaus Wonderstuff (pilsner)
Although not pictured, my table ordered the grilled chili blue prawns to start off. I didn’t partake in consuming them, since I am not a fan of seafood, however, the rest of my party was pleased with them.
As for the rest of the food, we chose:
and Côte d’Azur (not pictured).
I was satisfied with the YOLO pizza as it had a nice mixture of meats (pepperoni, sausage and bacon) that combined to create a robust flavor of deliciousness! The sauce was also very fragrant and delightful. The only thing that I would have liked differently would have been a little more mozzarella because I love a good cheese pull, but it was definitely not a deal breaker. One of the strongest features of the pizza would have to be the crust. It had a very nice texture and maintained a nice crunchy to chewy ratio on the outer ring.
Despite not tasting everything on the table, I did appreciate how everything was presented well and looked good.
At some point during the meal, there was mention by someone in my party about the soft serve being well reviewed. Since I am an enthusiast of ice cream, it was a must have.
Chocolate hazelnut soft serve
With it being my birthday, our amazing waitress generously decorated the dessert!
It had a good soft serve texture that was neither too airy or runny. The flavor was rich but not overwhelming and had a bold chocolate taste.
Overall, I and the rest of my party were extremely satisfied with Young Joni and will definitely return. I hope that the restaurant receives the same (if not more) love and praise as Kim’s other establishments.
