The Hi-Lo Diner is a fun modern twist on a classic style of restaurant. From the outside, it has the charming appearance you would imagine when hearing the word “diner”. The interior is bright and clean with a full bar behind the counter that is visible immediately when you walk in the door. There’s a vibrant energy within the establishment that makes the whole eating experience spectacular.
I got the Crispy Chicken sandwich with crinkle cut fries.
Apple-bacon slaw and roasted garlic aioli are housed between the buns with the chicken. Pickles come on the side. The sandwich has a nice combination of sweetness that comes from the slaw, mixed with the savoriness of the chicken. It has a crispy texture to the breading, as advertised in the name, with a juicy core. If you add a bit of Sriracha to the mix, it is perfection. The crinkle cut fries have the right balance of salt and pepper to them. They’re thick cut and some of the best fries that I’ve had in a long time. The pickles on the side were fairly sweet and had a unique flavor.Sitting at the counter is fun because you can watch the various types of alcoholic drinks being constructed. Despite it being early in the afternoon, there were many orders for drinks which made more entertainment to watch. It’s fascinating seeing them mix all of the liquids together. At one point, they even implemented a science beaker for the process which was really nifty.
I thought the food was wonderful and the menu had a lot of different options that I would love to come back and try soon. They have a great selection of breakfast items, including an entire section of eccentrically topped donuts. Two of them were ordered by people near me and they looked fabulous. I can’t wait to go back to Hi-Lo Diner for more.
